Meditation Hypnosis - Relaxing Under The Influence
Meditation hypnosis can be thought of in two ways. Firstly, it could be regarded as the state one can achieve through self mediation. It could be said that to be perfectly relaxed could be regarded as being under hypnosis.
Another way of looking at it, is probably the more traditional view where hypnosis is carried, by relaxation. This method of hypnosis differs from task hypnosis, which could be thought of as the conjurers hypnosis - perhaps what you might experience at a show or at the theatre. But how do these methods differ?
A study was carried out by messrs Morse DR, Martin JS, Furst ML, and Dubin LLSs where subjects were monitored for respiratory rate, pulse rate, blood pressure, skin resistance, EEG activity, and muscle activity after undergoing differing types of hypnosis. They were monitored during the alert state, meditation (TM or simple word type), hypnosis (relaxation and task types), and relaxation.
The results showed significantly better relaxation responses for the relaxation states (relaxation, relaxation-hypnosis, meditation) than for the alert state. There were no significant differences between the relaxation states except for the measure "muscle activity" in which meditation was significantly better than the other relaxation states.
Overall, there were significant differences between task-hypnosis and relaxation-hypnosis. No significant differences were found between TM and simple word meditation. For the subjective measures, relaxation-hypnosis and meditation were significantly better than relaxation, but no significant differences were found between meditation and relaxation-hypnosis.
From this study, the benefits of meditation hypnosis over task hypnosis were significant.
